Buton Mosque

Buton Mosque was first established in 1538 AD Not long ago, the mosque was burnt due to the civil war that occurred in the Sultanate of Buton in the struggle for power. Development of a new mosque began again in 1712 AD with a location not too far from its original place.

Then Sakiudin Dar Sultan Alam, Sultan of Buton, an initiative to rebuild the mosque that was burned in the location of the source of the sound azan found.

In 1930, at the Hamidi Sultan (sultan's 37th), the mosque was renovated for the first time. The original structure of the building will be retained and only replacing some wood frame, because it had rotted with age. While the roof which was originally using a thatched roof was replaced with zinc.
Buton Mosque specialty lies in building architecture. This mosque was built with a rectangular-shaped roof, amounting to two-tier pyramid. Meanwhile, the mosque consists of three floors, follow the structure of the building houses on stilts which is the typical traditional house of the people of Southeast Sulawesi.
There were 12 entrances to the mosque one of whom serves as the main door. At the front of the mosque, or rather the east of the mosque, there is an open porch. Meanwhile, in the mosque there is a mihrab and the pulpit are located side by side. Both are made of bricks at the top there are ornaments of carved wood vegetation patterns that are similar to Arabic carvings.

An antique lamps made of bronze three branches that hung right in the middle of the room mosque. At each branch chandelier, the available three places to the light bulb. That said, the lights with the model contained only three places in Indonesia, two more are in the State Palace in Jakarta and Yogyakarta Palace.
Buton Mosque in Fort Palace is situated in Buton, Melai Village, District Betoambari, Kota Bau-Bau, Sulawesi Tenggara, Indonesia.
