Four Elements Become Tourist Destination
Destination Management Organization (DMO) or the destination of governance is not just a project of the government. DMO is more accurately described as a long-term program. Director General of Tourism Destination Development Kemenbudpar DMO Firman said the program aims to organize the four necessary elements of a tourism destination.
"DMO make an integration between attractiveness, infrastructure, community, and transportation. How can develop a destination if the four elements are not arranged. All four of these elements can not walk alone. It should be a synergy that can happen is the movement of people to destinations," said Firman House Sapta Enchantment Jakarta last weekend.
He gave the example of an area with good traction, but the road is not good, certainly will not be developed into tourist destinations. Another example as happened in Toraja. "Once the flight is to Toraja. But travel agents do not look for cargo flights eventually went bankrupt. Turn any cargo, the flight was not there," he said.
Therefore, he continued, the DMO is not a program that only took a year. But programs must be sustainable "Do not be this year then next year make sudahan, must continue.'s Why this program is not a project. Large programs can not directly perceived, need to be a long process," he said.
The main guidelines of the DMO is the participation of stakeholders ranging from community, tourism industry, until the government. Firman said that to get participation from the community level, need to have a sense of ownership of the community towards the region.
Besides, he added, people should be involved for the approach and ultimately to feel success. Similarly, the need for commitment to the tourism industry from hotels, attractions, restaurants to travel agencies. Meanwhile, local government and cross agency also directly involved. "These models are effective but do not expect to go right up his visit tomorrow. That's the process and start from the bottom," said Firman.
Side as from the central government could only act as facilitators and accompanist, but could not dictate. DMO has been tested at two destinations is Lake Toba and Pangandaran. "Lake Toba from two districts are involved, there are other districts that are interested to come along. We invite, and hopefully in the future more and more widespread. So all the back and depend on each other's blood. We can not dictate. Since the area was well belong to the region, rather than have a central , "he explained.
Kemenbudpar has conducted studies and determination of destinations that will enter the DMO since 2007. In total there are 15 destinations that enter the DMO program. Model DMO program itself is often applied in foreign countries "We learn from overseas and the UNWTO. The UNWTO is no model of the DMO program. From the 90's DMO science that already exists. We have applied the test in 2010. In 2011, in This first year we set as our starting point. There was discussion of how to position the destination at the end of the year, "he said.
Firman added every year there are conferences DMO world level. So that each country can learn from international experience in running the DMO. "We can see also the experience from abroad. The next Conference in August 2011 plans in the province. This event will be a resonance imaging also to the world as if Indonesia also conducts the DMO and the world came to know our commitment to make the Indonesian tourism growing," said Firman.
