MEDAN, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian embassy to Jordan is considering to establish a sister city between Medan, North Sumatra, and Madaba in the south of the mid-eastern country. In a meeting with N Sumatra Governor’s executive Gatot Pujo Nugroho in Medan, on Friday, ambassador Zainul Bahar Noor said the two cities are unique.

Madaba in the southern part of Jordan’s capital of Amman is near to the stony Dead Sea and has a high sea water content, while Medan is near the green Toba Lake also called "dead sea" but has fresh water.

He has conveyed his hope to Medan city mayor Rahudman Harahap who has expressed readiness to build a Medan-Madaba sister city project. Under the project he hoped for a cooperation in various sectors such as tourism and education and plantation commodities in N Sumatra.

Under the project, he hoped to attract more Jordanian tourists. In education, the embassy will organize an Indonesian college expo in that country by inviting five Indonesian institutions of higher education including N Sumatra University (USU).

Under this program, the quality of education in Indonesia could draw the interest of Jordanians to study in RI. Gatot Pujo Nugroho highly welcomed the business cooperation plan, as well as the sister-city project.
