President Benigno S. Aquino III state visits to Indonesia on March 7-8, 2011 and Singapore on March 9-11, 2011
MANILA, Philippines - PRESIDENT Benigno S. Aquino III is leaving for a four-day state visit to Indonesia on March 7-8, 2011 and Singapore on March 9-11, 201. The visits will be the President’s 4th and 5th trips to foreign countries since he assumed the presidency on June 30, 2010.
The Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore are among the Founding Fathers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a regional grouping established on August 8, 1967, in Bangkok, Thailand. Forty-four years later, the three countries continue to maintain dynamic diplomatic and economic relations. They are signatories to ASEAN Vision 2020, looking at Southeast Asian nations bonding together in partnership in development and in a community of caring societies.
In Indonesia, President Aquino will hold talks with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and in Singapore with President Sellapan Ramanathan (S.R. Nathan) and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The Chief Executive is expected to discuss in his meetings with the leaders the strengthening of bilateral ties, the welfare and protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), and greater exchange of goods and services. He is also scheduled to meet with top financial and business leaders of the two countries for enhanced collaboration and mutual assistance in the sectors of energy, tourism, labor, information technology, business process outsourcing and agriculture, among others.
Also in the agenda of the President are dialogues with OFWs and officials of the Filipino communities in Indonesia and Singapore. Indonesia is home to some 100,000 Filipinos, mostly skilled professionals; Singapore is a favorite destination of the country’s computer experts, nurses, caregivers, and household help.
President Aquino is bringing with him the goodwill and wish of the Filipino people for a strengthened partnership with Indonesia, Singapore, and other of ASEAN. We wish President Benigno S. Aquino III and Delegation bon voyage and a safe and productive trip. We wish him all the best and success in all his endeavors.
