Yamaha India Prepare Electric Motorcycles
Yamaha Motor India (YMI) are interested to market electric motorcycles in their own country. Moreover, premium fuel prices continue to rise (now Rp11.800 per liter), would provide opportunities for renewable energy vehicles."electric motorcycle is a good option and we'd sell it in Japan. There is a possibility of India to be one target market, to introduce the product," said June Nakata, Director of Marketing YMI, like dilanir Economic Times (6 / 3). Unfortunately, Nakata did not explain more specifically what kind of plan in the future.
To be sure, YMI is now preparing two new models launched this year, one of them automatic scooter (scooter). Nakata added that this new unit became prime Yamaha products in the scooter segment. "The model was developed in Japan and specially created according to the characteristics of the Indian market,"said Nakata.
Roy Kurian, head of the National Business YMI added, every year the Yamaha would launch a new product. Without voicing model name, he just emphasizes the Yamaha would strengthen its position in the 150cc motorcycle segment.
"Last year we managed to sell 3.7 lakh (370,000) units in the domestic market and 1.2 lakh (120,000) units for export. Our target to increase sales 40-50 percent this year,"said Kurian.
In India, Yamaha operates two manufacturing facilities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana with a total production capacity of 600,000 units per year and could be increased to 1,000,000 units per year.
